유방암(BC)은 여성에서 가장 흔하게 발생하는 악성 종양으로, 2022년 미국에서 287,850건의 새로운 사례가 진단된 것으로 추정됩니다1. 최근 연례 검진, 표적 치료 및 유전적 소인에 대한 더 나은 이해를 통한 조기 발견의 발전에도 불구하고 유방암은 미국 여성의 암 사망의 두 번째 주요 원인으로 우세하며 매년 >40,000명이 유방암으로 사망합니다1. 유방암은 현재 원발성 종양의 조직병리학적 및 분자적 평가에 기초하여 여러 아형으로 분류된다. 더 나은 아형 계층화는 아형별 치료 옵션으로 환자 결과를 개선했습니다2. 예를 들어, HER2를 원발암유전자(proto-oncogene)3로 식별함으로써 트라스투주맙(Trastuzumab)이 개발되었고, 이로 인해 대부분의 환자에서 매우 공격적인 아형을 관리할 수 있게 되었다4. 환자 특이적 방식으로 이 복잡한 질병의 유전학 및 전사체학에 대한 추가 연구는 더 나은 환자 맞춤형 치료 요법을 개발하고 예측하는 데 도움이 될 것이다 2,5. 환자 유래 오가노이드(PDO)는 분자 수준에서 암에 대한 통찰력을 얻고, 새로운 표적 또는 바이오마커를 식별하고, 새로운 치료 전략을 설계할 수 있는 유망한 새로운 모델입니다 6,7,8.
