Deux techniques peuvent être utilisées pour établir ce modèle: l'injection d'une suspension de cellules cancéreuses dans le mur caecal ou la transplantation d'un morceau de tumeur sous-cutanée sur le caecum. Ce modèle est utile pour étudier l'évolution naturelle du cancer colorectal et le test de nouveaux agents thérapeutiques contre le cancer colorectal.
