A pesar de los avances en la toxicidad de modelado humano de los medicamentos, muchos de los compuestos no durante los ensayos clínicos debido a efectos secundarios imprevistos. Las células madre pluripotentes (PSC) son una fuente atractiva alternativa de hepatocitos humanos, como las células (HLC) (Medine et al 2010). PSC son capaces de auto-renovación y diferenciación a todos los tipos de células somáticas en el adulto y representa por lo tantouna fuente potencialmente inagotable de células diferenciadas. Hemos desarrollado un procedimiento que es simple, altamente eficiente, susceptibles de automatización y el rendimiento funcional HLC humanos (Hay et al 2008; Fletcher et al 2008; Hannoun et al 2010; Payne et al 2011 y Hay et al 2011). Creemos que nuestra tecnología dará lugar a la producción escalable de HLC para el descubrimiento de fármacos, la modelización de enfermedades, la construcción de dispositivos extra-corporal y tratamientos basados en la posible trasplante de células.
Hemos desarrollado un modelo simple, homogéneo y altamente reproducible in vitro para generar niveles escalables de HLC humanos.
