Curcumin ist ein ideales Fluorophor für die Kennzeichnung und Bildgebung von Amyloid-Beta-Protein-Plaques im Gehirngewebe aufgrund seiner bevorzugten Bindung an Amyloid-Beta-Protein sowie seiner strukturellen Ähnlichkeiten mit anderen traditionellen Amyloid-Bindungsfarbstoffen. Es kann verwendet werden, um Amyloid-Beta-Protein-Plaques effizienter und kostengünstiger als herkömmliche Methoden zu beschriften und abzubilden.
