Curcumine is een ideale de voor het labelen en beeldvorming van amyloïde beta eiwit plaques in hersenweefsel als gevolg van de preferentiële binding aan amyloïde beta-eiwit, alsmede de structurele gelijkenissen met andere traditionele amyloïde bindende kleurstoffen. Het kan worden gebruikt om te labelen en beeld amyloïde beta eiwit plaques efficiënter en goedkoop dan traditionele methoden.
