Nieuwe generaties van functionele testen zoals gamma interferon (IFN-γ) ELISPOT, die cytokineproductie detecteren op enkele cel en bieden zowel kwantitatieve als kwalitatieve karakterisering van T cel responsen kunnen worden gebruikt om celgemedieerde immuunresponsen tegen varicella zoster beoordelen virus (VZV).
