Het ernstige tekort aan organen heeft geleid tot een toename van het gebruik van marginale nieren grafts voor transplantatie. Dit heeft de interesse in alternatieve methoden voor de opslag geactiveerd, omdat marginale enten vooral tolereren koude opslag slecht. De techniek van normotherme ex vivo perfusie nier (NEVKP) een nieuwe bewaarmethode voor nieren grafts voorafgaand aan de transplantatie.
